    “Growing up in a family of eleven in a small town in Idaho, I learned at a very young age, the foundations of living, eating, and moving naturally to create a lifetime of optimal health and fitness. Eating organically, working and playing out in the fresh air and sunshine, and being shown the body’s natural ability to heal and bet fit, were a part of my daily rearing.

    While other kids were munching on Oreos and drinking sodas, our snacks were fresh well water, fresh fruit and veggies, and stone ground bread and crackers. My friends could sit around and watch TV or hang out all summer. I wasn’t free to run off with friends until I had done my share of planting, weeding, and helping around the house with younger siblings.

    My Thoughts

    This is a unique health and fitness book that I found insightful and refreshing.  You may recognize the author’s name.  She is the wife of Mark Victor Hansen who co-authored Chicken Soup books.

    What sets apart Crystal’s message of health from other books of this genre I’ve read is that she focuses on the entire body, mind, physical, and emotion.  In the first chapter she actually encourages the reader to throw out the bathroom scale and instead get to the root of what is causing us to choose “Thief” foods over “Saint” foods, and choose only healthy food absent of sugar, refined flour, and process. 

    This author is honest, asking the reader thought provoking questions to prompt lifestyle changes. Her style of writing is easy to understand, and free of the heavy jargon that complicates many messages of good health.  Each chapter ends with a testimonial of one who has gone through the Skinny Life Program and also affirmations to daily speak oral words of wisdom to our being.

    This book is divided into three parts:

    • The Truth About Weight Issues 
    • A New Way of Looking At Weight and You
    • Life As The New You

    She also includes a chapter on supplements, a necessary part of our diet . 

    The author is very positive, encouraging, and honest concerning the problem with our dieting patterns.  Her faith based approach is inspiring to change our thoughts and build a happier and  fit life. 

    I had some “A ha” moments throughout this review.  I do focus too much on the scale number, but for me it keeps my weight in check.  She suggests that when we are rushed, we need to decide to fast instead of eating at a fast food restaurant.  The author believes that a God centered life and positive thinking is the key to weight loss, even if you have to evaluate the benefit of friendships that do not support your weight goals. Her views on owning our body, our choices, and our life path was refreshing.  Our weight is our choice.  Our fitness level is our choice.  Our daily walk with God and focus on His goodness is our choice.  We are body mind and spirit and all three must be addressed.

    Whether you have 10 pounds or 100 pounds to loose, this book will benefit your life.
