Christmas Time by Sue M. Barksdale

Since Christmas is such a captivating time of year, it’s the perfect setting for telling children about the miracle of the Lord Jesus Christ’s birth. Using selected passages from the first chapters of the gospels of Matthew and Luke, Christmas Time – It’s All About Jesus tells the story of Jesus’ birth in a delightfully poetic and child-like way. The sensational illustrations create an unforgettable image, so a child can always remember the true meaning of Christmas.

As an added bonus, Pastor Russ and Sue have developed devotionals to be used by families to enrich their Christmas celebrations. These are complete with attributes and names of Jesus, questions for discussion, and activities to do as a family to share Christ with those around them. Coupled together, this story and devotionals will enhance your celebration of Christmas during the season and all year long!

My Thoughts

This book is adorable and I am looking forward to reading it to my grandchildren and pre-school students.  It is brief and the beautiful cartoon pictures and simple dialogue will hold their attention.  Those children who are 3 and up will enjoy this book during this holiday season.

In the conclusion, the author has included five devotionals centered around the acronym GLORY.  These will appeal to older children as well as the young.

If you are seeking a gift for small children at your holiday dinners, look no further.  This book will delight those youngsters in your life.  It will gently teach and minister the true meaning of this holiday.

51yyi5MnXrL._SX493_BO1,204,203,200_A companion prayer book to 99 Stories from the Bible with delightful illustrations in a strong vibrant style and prayers for all occasions. The prayers are a combination of traditional and modern and provide an introduction to family prayer time with young children, bringing talking to God to life in the heart of every child.

About the Author

Juliet David has written many children’s stories and Bible activity books. Her other interests include painting, music, and travel to Israel and other Bible lands. This experienced author lives in London with her family.

My Thoughts

I read this book to my Pre-K Class of four and five year olds over the past two months.  They enjoyed it so much that they were asking when we were going to read it again.  The child like illustrations are perfect to coinside with the prayer topics for the particular chapter being read.

Although the recommended age is four to seven, I believe this book could also be used as a reader for an older child. It would also be a springboard for many discussions on prayer with your family.

This book is hardback and just beautiful for a gift for the children in your life. I encourage you to purchase a copy to read to your children or grandchildren, and several to give away as gifts.

Thank you to the author and Kregel Publications for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

The Biggest Story by Kevin DeYoung ~ Giveaway

6151-fyMx5LOnce upon a time there lived a man and a woman. They were the happiest people on the planet.

True, they were the only people on the planet, but they were still terrifically happy.

Unfortunately, things didn’t stay happy and wonderful for long . . .

The Bible is full of exciting stories that fill children with awe and wonder. But kids need to know how all those classic stories connect to Scripture’s overarching message about God’s glorious plan to redeem his rebellious people.

In The Biggest Story, Kevin DeYoung—a best-selling author and father of six—leads kids and parents alike on an exciting journey through the Bible, connecting the dots from the garden of Eden to Christ’s death on the cross to the new heaven and new earth.

With powerful illustrations by award-winning artist Don Clark, this imaginative retelling of the Bible’s core message—how the Snake Crusher brings us back to the garden—will draw children into the biblical story, teaching them that God’s promises are even bigger and better than we think.

Bible Stories Gone Crazy by Josh Edwards

untitledEight Bible stories are depicted in bright color and comic, cartoony illustrations. There is a sentence or two explaining the scene at the top, and then details to spot, mistakes to find, and questions to answer along the sides of the picture, such as, Did Noah s workmen REALLY have power tools? and How many rabbits are in the picture? Children will love scouring the illustrations to find the answers and spot more amusing details in the busy artwork of Emiliano Migliardo.
The stories are Noah and His Great Ark, Moses Crossing the Red Sea, Joshua and the Fall of Jericho, David and Goliath, Daniel and the Lions, Jonah and the Big Fish, Feeding the 5,000, and Man Through the Roof.

About the Authors

Josh Edwards has written a number of Bible stories and innovative activity books for kids, building on his experience as a teacher and artist, and as a father of three rapidly growing children. A Londoner by birth, residence, and preference, he has travelled widely and always loved books and reading.

Emiliano Migliardo was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1971, and has been working in children’s media, publishing comic strips, humor, games and illustrations for more than 20 years. He knew he wanted to dedicate his life to drawing since a young boy, and he has.

My Thoughts

This book is similar to the “Where’s Waldo” genre.  I found adults in my home even seeking out the characters and softly chuckling. My preschool students have fought over this book to the point that I had to set up an opportunity for each child to have a turn looking at it.

This book is hardback with thick pages that can withstand little hands.  It is appropriate for 4 years old and up.  Honestly, your child will have hours of quiet fun looking over the pictures, discovering new illustrations, and your older children will be able to follow the instructions and seek the answers to questions located in the outer border of each page.

This would make a delightful gift for your child or a gift for a special youngster in your life.  Consider purchasing Bible Stories Gone Crazy for your local elementary school or church library.

Thank you to the authors and Lion Hudson, a division of Kregel, for the opportunity to review this funny and entertaining book, in exchange for my honest review.
